A Guide to Nighttime Dental Care

We know you’re probably thinking that brushing and flossing your teeth at night doesn’t really matter. Well, sorry to break it you, but you’re wrong. Throughout the day food particles, debris, and bacteria circulate in your mouth. If the particle and debris aren’t properly removed from the mouth, over time, it can start to stick to your teeth which cause dental issues like plaque and decay. It is important to remove the bacteria in your mouth before you go to sleep and when you wake up in the morning. General dentist Dr. Mahnke recommends that you brush and floss your teeth at least twice a day.

A) Make sure you brush at night! It’s important to remove the bacteria that accumulates n your mouth throughout the day. Some patients prefer to brush right after dinner, while others prefer to brush right before bed. it doesn’t matter what time you brush, just as long as you brush correctly before retiring for the evening.

B) Use mouthwash! Look for ADA approved mouthwash to use. Mouthwash helps strengthen the teeth and kid rid of any excess debris in the mouth.

C) Don’t forget to floss. Flossing removes bacteria and debris that is between the teeth. If left unclean, the debris between the teeth can turn into plaque. Plaque can only be removed by a skilled dental professional.

D) Visit Bay City Smiles biannually. At Bay City Smiles, Dr. Mahnke and his team specialize in restorative, preventive, and implant dentistry. Preventive care is an important part of any dental practice, so Dr. Mahnke believes in educating patients on the importance of visiting his Bay City dental office at least twice a year to check the mouth, teeth, and gums for any signs of dysfunction.
