What is Halitosis?

What is Halitosis and What Causes It?

Halitosis is chronic bad breath that comes from bacteria build-up in the mouth. Other causes of halitosis can include:

  • gum disease
  • cavities
  • trapped food particles
  • cracked fillings
  • dirty dentures

Maintaining a good oral care routine is extremely important and is key to fighting halitosis. Other ways to fight halitosis include:

  • brushing and flossing your teeth at least twice a day (helps reduce the bacteria in your mouth)
  • using antibacterial mouthwash (helps prevents cavities)
  • getting routine dental check-ups every six months

Undergoing a dental evaluation is the proper way to diagnose and treat halitosis. Dr. Daryle Mahne offers routine screenings for complex dental problems in his Bay City dentist office. If you would like to determine the cause of halitosis and receive the treatment you need, visit Dr. Mahnke and our team at Bay City Smiles in Bay City, MI.

  • Coffee
  • Garlic
  • Onions
  • Spicy foods
