Dental Bridges An Overview
For patients who are missing teeth, Bay City dentist Dr. Daryle Mahnke offers dental bridges as a long-lasting, natural-looking replacement option. Dr. Mahnke understands that finding the right solution to restore missing teeth can be a nerve-racking process. Dr. Mahnke works on a one on one basis with each of his patients to identify their cosmetic goals, budget, and lifestyle before recommending which solution will work best for their dental needs.
At Bay City Smiles, we offer several types of dental bridges. We offer removable dental bridges and fixed dental bridges; Dr. Mahnke will examine your teeth to determine which solution is the best solution for your long-term goals and dental health.
What is a Dental Bridge?
Essentially, a dental bridge is a series of dental crowns. A dental bridge may be used to replace one or more missing teeth and can either be removable or fixed. For a longer lasting, durable result, Dr. Mahnke may suggest patients secure their dental bridge using dental implants. Dr. Mahnke will perform a full dental checkup to determine which solution will provide the most natural looking, effective results.
Dental Bridges What to Expect
Types of Dental Bridges
- Removable Dental Bridge – Generally, a removable dental bridge (also known as a temporary removable partial denture) is only suitable as a short-term solution. A removable bridge can help to maintain tooth position while a patient is preparing to have a fixed dental bridge or dental implant. While the cost of a removable dental bridge is appealing, they do not offer long-term benefits.
- Fixed Dental Bridge – In this type of restoration, a prosthetic tooth is connected to two dental crowns which cover the teeth on either side of the missing tooth. Another option is to have a fixed dental bridge secured by dental implants instead of dental crowns. Dental implants are self-supporting, eliminating the need to degrade neighboring teeth as is the case with a traditional bridge supported by dental crowns.
Dental Bridge vs. Dental Implant
There are many things to consider when comparing dental bridges vs. dental implants. A dental implant also replaces the tooth root, so it offers a better long-term solution. However, not everyone is a candidate for dental implants. Depending on the location of the missing tooth or the bone structure, Dr. Mahnke may recommend a dental bridge or partial denture to replace your missing teeth.
